Koridor Utara is strategically located within the IMT-GT and is adjacent to the Eastern Corridor. Leveraging on this advantage, the vision is for Koridor Utara to be a major processing centre and entrepot port. Koridor Utara will tap into produce farmed, and goods manufactured in the hinterland, which may be processed in Koridor Utara and shipped out through Penang Port.
Koridor Utara has a well-established logistics eco-system and linkages, as it has been a key enabler primarily to the manufacturing but also to the tourism and agriculture industries for the past 40 years. It goes without saying that the vibrancy of Koridor Utara has been boosted with these logistics linkages, allowing population growth and mobility. The key transportation and logistics infrastructure that underlies this connectivity is an international airport, an international port, the North South Expressway and the extensive road network.
Based on its ever increasing growth momentum, Koridor Utara will also see further infrastructure enhancements in the form of the 2nd Penang bridge, the Ipoh-Padang Besar Electrified Double-Tracking project and expansion of the Bayan Lepas Airport Passenger Terminal.
Leveraging on the Koridor Utara already established transport infrastructure and proximity to Thailand and Sumatera. It strives to become the centre for processing, logistics and trade, to service demands for the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT).
